How To Link AADHAAR to PAN Number Online






Finance Act 2017 has come up with a brand-new section 139AA in Income Tax Act 1961. This section speaks of mandatory linking of AADHAAR number/AADHAAR enrolment ID to PAN number for return filing purposes. If not carried out, then the PAN card will be invalidated for life permanently. AADHAAR number has to be linked with the PAN number on or before 30th June 2017.

For income tax return filing from 1st July onwards and For the application of PAN allotment form 1st July onwards, It will facilitate e-verification using only AADHAAR number.

How to link AADHAAR number to PAN number?


There are two ways in which AADHAAR can be linked to PAN number for convenient and easier return filing.

This facility is basically introduced so as to cater to complaints of those taxpayers whose AADHAAR linking have failed due to the mismatch in date of birth, name, and gender between PAN and AADHAAR databases.
With a recent notification issued on 11th May 2017, Income Tax department allows AADHAAR linking with PAN without even creating login ID and without logging into Income Tax website. Below are the steps for the same.
There is a new option under a left pane of the Income Tax website (https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/) – “Link AADHAAR”. Click on this option to move forward with the AADHAAR linking.

After clicking on “Link AADHAAR”, you will be redirected to next screen which will be asked to fill in
AADHAAR number
PAN
Name as AADHAAR (to be filled in as exactly as in AADHAAR card)
Captcha code (for verification)
Details filled

Once all these details are filled in, the user should click on the “Link AADHAAR” button. If the details filled in are correct and verified as correct by Income Tax Department (PAN) and UIDAI (AADHAAR), then the message for successful linking will be displayed.
In a case of minor mistakes in AADHAAR details, the taxpayer will be notified with OTP on registered mobile number with AADHAAR number.
2. For those who are registered on the Income Tax Website


Log in to Income Tax India e-filing website https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/ and log in to your existing account using PAN number as your login ID.



If you don’t have any account created, then the website will ask you to create one based on your PAN.





The KYC details screen for new account registration will look like this above image. Fill in the details and proceed to continue. Once you fill in the basic details, the you will be redirected to registration form. Once all the details are filled up, you will receive registration successful message and will also receive the message as to when the user ID and password will be working.
Once the account is created, you can log on to https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/ and your dashboard will appear.
Once you see the home page or dashboard, please click on profile settings option on the menu bar of the dashboard.



Once you click on profile settings, you will see many options, one of which would be link AADHAAR. Click on the button which will redirect you to another page.
Once you click on Link AADHAAR, you will see the following image wherein you will be asked to fill in the AADHAAR number and captcha code (for verification purpose). Once filled in, please click on link AADHAAR to complete the procedure.



If all details of AADHAAR and PAN card match, then you will receive a message with respect to successful completion of linking AADHAAR to PAN number.
If you don’t receive such message, then please recheck whether
Name
Date of birth
Gender


As present in PAN matches with that of AADHAAR details. If there is a discrepancy in any one of such details, then AADHAAR number can’t be linked to PAN number.
